We arrived in Ho Chi Minh. Stepped out of the airport and grabbed a taxi to Ms Yangs home stay. The taxi cost us about 160000 dong from the airport to district 3 where we were staying. We were going to catch the bus for less than 50 cents to our accomodation but didn’t realise it was Chinese New Year and the bus wasn’t running. In addition to that hardly anything was open for 4 days and prices were much higher than usual (much higher is still pretty cheap)
We arrived at Ms Yangs and it was a lovely surprise. Her place was clean, friendly and in a great location in district 3. Far enough from district 1 also known as the backpackers district, in that when you stepped out the front door you were not surrounded by tourists but close enough to wander in to the area to book transport and tours if need be.
That night Ms Yang invited us to have dinner with her family and some of the other guests staying at her homestay. We sat on the floor in the foyer and had a traditional Vietnamese meal, which was a mixture of delicious spring rolls and a bowl of strange meat.
The following day we wandered around the city all day. Ate Pho for breakfast, Booked a bus at a local travel agent in district 1 for our overnight trip to Nha Trang and visited the war monuments museum. I didn’t know anything about the Vietnam war so visiting the museum opened my eyes to a lot. We have been eating street food every where so far. It looks questionable but so far mostly delicious.
Tomorrow we are going to the Cu Chi tunnels!
